I love this thought process, I would say it's a good 25% of the 'new database!!!' use case/reason for existing … "I didn't like the way B-Trees work, so I created an entirely new database with my own special Index! It's Wicked Fast!"
How about you try adding your special sauce to .. Postgres, or some other well established product ...Then you will get all those features that you would otherwise spend the rest of your life implementing/trying to get right.. For FREE!
