Apollo 13.1

Onsite tech: I uploaded the wrong firmware into the box, and now it's dead, is there any way to save it?

Me: This is going to be kind of like in Apollo 13 where all the engineers get together and come up with a list of instructions to save the day, except the astronauts are already dead.

Delirious

I'm sick :( Some sort of cold .. Probably not bird flu.
I think I have firmly established a direct link between lots of caffeine and my getting sick.. Specifically chai or espresso. Those of you who know my caffeine history will not be too surprised to find out that my body now reacts in strange ways to its old friend/enemy.. Tea is still fine. It's sad admitting that I will have to cut it out of my life, it served me so well in college.

I'm lying in bed, trying to rest, and I'm in this half dream half awake state where each reality is mixing.. Today at work I was setting up our SIP Proxies, and in my dream I still am, except depending on how I lay in bed, the proxies are set up for redundancy or not...
..roll over! the proxies are failing! ok.. better. No No left side! ok.. Back! Front! The covers are twisted, and it's causing too much packet loss!

Fever in a weird way is still slightly enjoyable.

Free Solo

I'm not a big fan of free solo. I can sum it up thusly:
Ever bite your tongue while eating? Trip while walking? Stumble while going up or down stairs? spill your drink? Fall off your bike? All these are examples of perfectly simple actions that you made a mistake while performing... Now consider the consequences:

I particularly liked the dyno to the flake.

Paranoia

These must be hard times for the casually schizophrenic. Now that words like 'CIA', 'Wiretap', and 'Watch list', are in common usage.. It is much more likely that you will catch them just at the edge of audibility in a public place... Did I imagine that? Is the CIA watching me right now? I could have sworn someone just said 'target watch list'.

Tinfoil Hat = on.
The other odd corollary to this is that the weird guy wearing a tinfoil hat, mumbling to himself about the government spying on him from (space, telephone, magic flying bean)... Is now sadly normal.

Flare Gun

I had this funny notion this weekend...
What if everyone had flare guns in their car for roadside mishaps...

...Ooops, ran out of gas / fender bender / flat tire.
Reach over to the glove box, grab the flare gun.. -Booosh!- Tow truck will be here shortly.

Idea number 2:

While watching a huge boat of a car take a corner real fast.. Tires squealing n all.. The hub cap goes flying off.. Now I know pop culture America has a thing for fancy rims... What about rims that detached on command, and went spinning off ... Now that's bound to draw attention! and really, isn't that what it's all about anyways?

Big Brother is Listening

We have one year to implement our CALEA interface.
Is that crazy or what?
http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-265221A1.pdf

So while the government is watching the caller.. I will be able to watch them..
That's the "Trace-Busta-Busta BUSTA" for those in the know.

btw, we already block calls to Afghanistan.
